Positive Balance
In this world there are so
many demands on our time and our resources. There are those who would
take all we have to give and then some until there's nothing left of
us.
(I say this not to create a picture or sense of gloom about the world
and the society we have created but simply to point out an obvious
fact.)
It is a wonderful thing to take care of other people. I believe life
truly is about the connections we make with others, and I know how easy
it is to make a positive impact in someone else's world without ever
knowing. Some of us are givers to the core. Just about anyone who has
an ounce of caring in their soul will understand how easy it is to get
caught up in taking care of other people and forgetting about taking
care of ourselves.
When we spend a lifetime doing this
however, we eventually run out of steam to go on caring for others
properly. If we fail to focus on the person we are and the things we
need and want out of life, it can leave us with a feeling of emptiness,
loneliness and disappointment. We become frustrated, tired, even angry
at times. All of these feeling are then reflected out into the world.
When another demand is made on us from a colleague, friend or family
member, we are less willing and less receptive. Chances are, that
person can sense the inner reluctance we have, and then they
internalize those feelings and continue a cycle of negative energy that
gets passed on and on from person to person.

If you learn
how to effectively take care of yourself first and make sure you have
all of your needs met, you become a happy, whole, loving person who
can't wait to shower those around you with that same happiness, caring
and love. |
It is a beautiful, perfect circle that works amazingly well when it is
not distorted by those who either give too much and leave nothing for
themselves, or those who never give back and insist their own needs
have yet to be met. It's about balance, and it is not something that
cannot be forced or else that balance will be destroyed.
