19. The Law of Non-Resistance Return to Self Study Page
By LifeAdviceSite.com
 |
The law
of non-resistance indicates that whenever we resist some situation, we
actually give more power to it. It's often stated, "what you resist
always persists."
It
happens because in resisting a problem or situation, we lend our energy
to that situation. By nature, whatever we give our attention to only
increases and attracts more and more energy. In feeling badly about
the situation and struggling against it, we cause more of that issue or
problem to flow into our life. As we struggle to solve the problem and
possibly fail against its powerful increase, we begin to feel
overwhelmed and anxious. As a result, the situation or problem only
grows worse. |
The law
of non-resistance teaches us to surrender the futile resistance of a
situation we don't want. Jesus was a teacher of the law of
non-resistance. He taught "resist not evil", "the meek shall inherit
the earth" and "turn the other cheek." Such teachings might leave us
thinking we leave ourselves vulnerable to be trampled down in the great
bull run that is life, but that is not the case. For thousands of
years our human nature has possessed a tendency to resist all obstacles
that rise up in front of us, to fight harder and harder until we at
last find success. The law of non-resistance serves to remind us that
we alone choose whether or not to create conflict in strife in our own
world. Often times the only thing we are actually fighting against is ourselves. We could fight against our enemies and try to destroy them, or we could be still and ask ourselves who made them an enemy.
Who decided someone was your enemy? You did.
|
You decided to resist, to resent or to be angry. And only you can decide to reverse all of that and embrace it in love and positive energy. If we love our enemies, they cease to be our enemies. If we embrace circumstance as a means to an end, it can never be negative or painful. When the grass grows, it does not lament over a cloudy day and cry out for sunshine. It rests in the coolness. It drinks in the rain. It fortifies itself to bask in the rays of the sun when it reappears.
Through an understanding of the other
natural laws such as the law of rhythm and the law of cause and effect,
we understand that whatever negative issue we perceive to have
manifested will cycle through and soon be replaced. We could fight
against the tide and become exhausted in the struggle to swim, or we
could hold our breath and wait for the coast guard or the surf to
deposit us safely back on the beach.

 |
All we have to do is shift our focus on what we do want and keep focused on emanating a positive frequency for what we want to attract to ourselves. After its gestational period, that seed of positive energy will once again take root in our life and blossom into good things. When we look back, we will see how the good was born even out of something which may have been momentarily difficult or unpleasant.
