How many tasks do you have to look after in a given day? How many people do you take care of? How often do you leave yourself last on the list of priorities?
How has that been working for you?
Have you suffered poor health, sleep deprivation or your fitness not being quite where you want it to be?
We all fall victim to this at some point in our lives. It's so much easier to break a promise to ourselves than to other people. Other people count on us. Other people get upset when we let them down. Other people let us know about their dissatisfaction with us.... <ouch>
Well, sometimes we have to take care of us. We can make the commitment to ourselves and we can even find success in honoring that commitment through determination, but what happens when we get busy and forget or momentarily lapse in our resolve? Wouldn't it be great if we had an outside reminder or some accountability to help us honor the commitment we have made to ourselves?
We can easily make an accountability partner out of anyone and everyone in our life by simply declaring our health goals out loud. Declaring intentions is a powerful exercise that allows anyone to get clear about their desires for their life and begin pursuing them. Our goals for health are no exception.

Whatever your goal is, you can easily set your intentions and go about fulfilling them. It becomes so much more natural and effortless when we share those goals with those around us. If you are trying to lose weight and co-workers offer you some cake or invite you out to lunch, you can politely decline and hope they won't be insulted - or you can let them in on your goal to drop a few pounds. You might even find an ally in someone else who also wants to drop a little weight. You can collaborate on healthy food choices together, share in a walk during your breaks and update each other on weekly scale changes. Now your goal involves other people cheering you on and adding energy to your expectation for yourself. When they ask you about your progress, you will be blessed with a reminder of your intention and the benefit of knowing others are counting on you and rooting for you to succeed in your goal.
If the goal is getting more sleep at night, you will find support when you make that goal known to those around you. Your friends and colleagues will be less likely to call you on the phone if you let them know you're planning on a certain bedtime, and supportive family members will help ensure you get to bed at your chosen hour when you communicate your need and desire to do so.
Never underestimate the power in sharing your goals with supportive people around you. While you alone are responsible for achieving them, there's nothing wrong with welcoming support and encouragement. It will see you to your goal that much faster.
