Bigelow Green Teas                                                                   Return to Reviews

I've tried many varieties of green tea, and for the most part they all taste pretty much the same.  There are exceptions such as bottled and sweetened green teas, but those brewed from tea bags are often quite similar.
I love green tea for its antioxidants.  It also offers natural caffeine and so it is often associated with weight loss benefits.  Green Tea is a great crutch for those who are trying to reduce or give up coffee intake, or for those with caffeine sensitivity in higher dosage.

Recently I tried out a variety box of Bigelow Green Tea in Blueberry, Pomegranate and Mango.  I could not believe the incredible difference in these special teas.  In fact, the tea itself tastes like most other green teas - clean and somewhat earthy.  But the aroma - oh, the aroma!

I started with Blueberry and simply steeped several bags in a pitcher of water to make iced tea.  At first sip, I was struck by the wonderful scent of blueberry.  Every sip of the tea is permeated by the perfume of blueberry and allowed me to momentarily trick myself into thinking I was actually drinking a nice blueberry drink.

The mango flavor was brewed the old fashioned way with boiling water.  The instant the water hit the tea bag, the delightful scent of mango wafted to my nose like sweet citrus elixir.  I sipped a cup steaming hot and enjoyed the comforting scent drifting from my cup.

When it came time to try the pomegranate, I brewed it hot and watched the red ribbons of pomegranate drift from the tea bag to encircle the whole of the cup.  Once it cooled, I popped it in the fridge for ice tea and enjoyed a cool and fragrant cup with a wedge of lime and ice cubes.  Delightful.  The taste is unmistakably green tea, but with the slightest hint of fruit in each cup.

While I could not have claimed a favorite brewed green tea prior to this, I now declare any one of these Bigelow Green Teas to be my absolute favorite.
